Help us, Travel, Street Art

The last thing that I had thought that I would find during my recent visit to Gorakhpur was wall paintings. It was good to see street art in Gorakhpur. With so much street art happening everywhere, I am sure you must be wondering what is that excites me. First and foremost, I like this colorful and creative medium of expression because it beautifies the place, the walls, streets and  the overall ambiance. Secondly, I like the fact that street art has nothing to do with cities or villages, modern or vintage, old or new, caste or creed. It is not being restricted to metropolitan cities only. Gladly, it is moving to two tier and three tier cities. Lastly, it is now being looked upon as a way to educate and convey important messages to the society. It is time that artworks should have the ability to leave a lasting impression on the viewer.

Street Art in Gorakhpur

In the last one year, I have been on a mission to click wall paintings wherever I can and I am glad that no place has disappointed me till date. Rather I have been extremely lucky in some of the places where I had least expectations. The last thing that I had thought that I would find during my recent visit to Gorakhpur was street art and wall paintings. And there were some very impressive ones talking about history (Kakori conspiracy), social media, the saint Kabir ji, freedom fighters, yoga, girl child, cleanliness and women safety. I was very happy to see this. The locals might not be realizing its importance but even if it they stop by to read, appreciate and laugh by, it does meet the purpose. If the social messages impact just one person or a child and bring a change in him/her, the job is done.

What is it about ‘Street Art’?

I am an artist and I have a fondness for creative things, so I have a biased love. But apart from that my aim of putting up blog posts around street art is to showcase a different side of travel and to appreciate the efforts of those who have put it up. This is the way I love to see a city, a town or a village, shining with colorful and having lots of positive messages floating around for its people. This is also a way to promoting cleanliness and tourism. I am sure these paintings discourage people to spit or pee or throw garbage on those walls.

Let us applaud the artists

Let us applaud and acknowledge the artists of Gorakhpur for bringing these up. I would definitely love to see more. Choose your favorite one.
