CHRISTMAS SPIRIT and OSLO

I am missing Oslo today. Not only because they were the best holidays that I have had ever but also because I am missing the perky Christmas moments.

Last month when I was there, the preparations had commenced by that time.  Every day I would be awe-struck with the beautiful CHRISTMAS decorations. The Christmas stuff could be seen all around. The streets were decked up with bells and lights end to end. I had loved every bit of it then and today when I sit down to think about it all, I miss being there at the time of BIG FESTIVAL OF EUROPE, Christmas…

As I take a ride through the pictures,  my memories are afresh and I am all Gleeful !!!

In EUROPE, CHRISTMAS IS A TIME FOR GIFTS, SNACKS AND CANDY

When my hubby and me ventured out in the evenings in Olso, we generally found the local residents busy in festival shopping and choosing gifts in this time of the season. The markets buzzed with crowds and it filled the air with warmth and spirit of the festival.

I reached Oslo in the second week of November, when the decorations had just begun show up. So I was witness to how it all started. A few streets of Karl Johan had been lighted up primarily but later the entire street dazzled in lights and beauty. The Christmas Trees had started to find prominent places in the shopping centers. They were of all sizes and they looked tall and gorgeous. In Europe, the decorations are done at a large scale and huge artificial decorative articles are used. Each day there was something more for us and we loved the surprises. The whole setup would bring a cheer on my face and my heart desired to dance.

THERE WAS HUSTLE-BUSTLE IN THE CITY AND THE FESTIVE MOOD HAD SET IN

I saw several kinds of Christmas trees there and never failed to capture it with my camera. Mostly they were dark green but the one in Opera House was Olive green in color. Also a Huge Christmas tree had been placed near the central station. Akers Brygge had been adorned beautifully too. The Golden tree looked fiery in the night and its reflection in the water made it look all the more captivating. Catch it all in the pics. Pre-Christmas parties, called as julebord, in Norwegian tradition also begin in 1st week of December.  We stayed there only till then and had to be back to India by 1st December.

I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FOND OF THE SUSPENDED GIFTS AND ORNAMENTS ON THE CHRISTMAS TREES.
